January saw a record number of ski school medals won by 'Team South Africa'! The kids were on the slopes from the moment the lifts opened until it got dark and their practice paid off. All of them also overtook their parents at one point during the holiday...
Christmas Day 2011 saw a record 97 Livigno Snow guests tucking into our annual traditional roast at the top of the mountain. We had the whole restaurant (Camanel di Planon based at 2300m) to ourselves which ensured everyone celebrated in the 'highest of traditions'! Thanks to the fabulous chefs and also the DJ a brilliant time was had by all - definitely one to remember.
Several guests from Ireland contacted us this morning to say that LivignoSnow is in the 'Irish Sun' newspaper! This nice review right appeared in the travel section on Saturday 05th February 2011 which made for a good start to the weekend. As always we have had a lot of Irish guests this year... and as always they make our 'work' a lot of fun!
New to Livigno as of January 2011 is the Quad bike track located at the lake. Last week we borrowed two quads for 20 minutes and had the track to ourselves which was a good fun. From the lake there is a walking path back into the town via the latteria (Livigno's dairy)... ideal opoprtunity to sample the resort's ice-cream (delicious!) The latteria also offer 25 minute guided tours which explain how the produce is made and ends with a tasting session of all their products which is a nice family activity one afternoon. There is also a small museum highlighting the farming history of the resort.
Ski lessons have been very popular this season and we actively encourage our guests to enjoy the service offered by the Centrale Ski School. All instructors are multi-lingual and ensure you go home with new found confidence and skills regardless of your ability levels. They offer instruction to everyone from absolute beginner to those seeking freestyle tuition in the snowpark in small teaching groups. We are always on-hand the first day of ski school to ensure all our guests meet their instructors and enjoy their first day on the slopes.
As always this season has seen wonderful clear blue skies and sunny weather. It's a long season this year as Easter is so late but there is ski pass free to look forward to from 26th March until 01 May. If you haven't already booked your holiday March and April are fantastic months to visit - sunny, warm and fantastic snow.
Once again the brilliant Tuesday night snowmobile trip with mountain feast has been incredibly popular. Our guests drive their own 500cc snowmobile with a guide for 20 minutes around the lake, along the river and through the forest at night under the stars before sitting down to enjoy a traditional 4 course Italian supper with wine and live music. The restaurant is not one that many visitors to Livigno know about as it is quite tucked away out of town but it is a favourite with the locals which is always a good sign. Some of our Irish, South African and English guests join forces for a sing-song in the photo!
On Thursdays we meet after skiing and drive up the mountain to the start of the 6km toboggan run. Rob explains how to control the toboggans and after two seasons Nikki is becoming quite the expert while everyone else ends up looking like snowmen by the end! This is a fantastic Apline experience and good photo opportunity.
Another fabulous Christmas day up the top of the mountain with all the guests! Our bearded friend paid another visit to hand out crackers to everyone. It turned into a very long, lazy lunch with starters, traditional roast and dessert with plenty of wine to celebrate!
